Ferrets are so much loved in the U.K., they enjoy their own holiday. The purpose of National Ferret Day is to ensure issues such as welfare, care, nutrition, and ownership are all highlighted in a positive way and educate the public to respect ferrets everywhere. The Ferret Education & Research Trust is the founding charity behind National Ferret Day in the UK.


Morris Animal Foundation launches campaign against pet cancer

Cancer is a disease that affects not only people but their beloved pets as well. Many times the lives of dogs and cats end far too soon due to this dreaded disease. That is why the Morris Animal Foundation has launched the “Unite to Fight Pet Cancer Campaign” to help invest in preventions and treatments for this deadly disease.

With spring comes “kitten season.” Kitten season is the time of year when cats give birth. Animal shelters and rescue groups soon become flooded with homeless litters of outdoor cats. Alley Cat Allies, the nation’s largest advocacy organization dedicated to cats, has advice to offer people who want to help cats and kittens during this critical time.

New radio show All About Animals

New symposium: Integrative Care & Responsible Pet Parenting

Residents of New Jersey and surrounding areas will have an opportunity to participate in an upcoming symposium focused primarily on pet health and wellness. The “Integrative Care & Responsible Pet Parenting” symposium is scheduled for April 5, 2014. The event will take place at the Palmyra Community Center in Palmyra, New Jersey, from 12-5 p.m. Seating is limited, so early registration is advised.

All Dogs Are Individuals

The Animal Farm Foundation published a really neat infographic about dogs recently that they offered to share called All Dogs are Individuals.  They are located in Dutchess County, New York, and have been working nationally to secure equal treatment and opportunity for pit bulls since 1985.  Their programs and services include an animal shelter, free internships for animal welfare professionals, educational resources, and grant opportunities.  All their programs are designed to support pit bulls and the organizations working on their behalf.

Buy A Book. Save A Cat.

Three Norwegians wants to help cats who are most in need of assistance: shelter cats and cats of low-income families in need of medical care. What a great way to celebrate Valentine's Day, too. On February 14, Three Norwegians kicked off the Indiegogo crowd-funding campaign. The campaign entitled “Buy a Book. Save a Cat.” was created to fund the new children's book The Bad Guy on the Block.

Wildlife Trafficking – National Strategy unveiled

It was a big day for the World Wildlife Foundation (WWF) whose mission is to conserve nature and reduce the most pressing threats to the diversity of life on Earth.  They recently published on their website that “A day before world leaders gather in London to tackle the issue of wildlife crime, the White House unveiled its first-ever National Strategy for Combating Wildlife Trafficking.”
