If you are like me, all cats simply intrigue you. Pictures may portray a thousand words, but there’s nothing like seeing all the cat breeds up close and learning first-hand about their history and characteristics. The Garden State Cat Expo offers all that and more, including a chance to adopt a cat or kitten in need of a forever home.
Do you own a pin-up pet?

Calendars featuring pets are a big hit these days with pet owners, and I ran across two contests recently where participation can really make a difference in an animal’s life. Whether you pay a small entry donation up front or buy the calendar outright, proceeds will benefit animal rescue and help fight animal cruelty.
Spotlight on Chasing Dreams pet therapy
Posted by SusanStokes on June 27, 2013
I met an amazing woman recently who runs a mobile business based in New Jersey called Chasing Dreams. Her specialty is pet massage and photonic therapy. Not knowing a great deal about these modalities as they apply to animals myself, I decided to take a closer look and learn more about what she has to offer.
How the Poodle Cat came to be
Posted by SusanStokes on June 21, 2013
It’s only appropriate to post a blog here about Poodle Cats, since the original cat was born of a feral mother. As the story goes, back in 1987, a feral cat in Montana gave birth to a litter of five kittens, but one of them looked a little different from the others.
Cologne for Cats and more on Father’s Day at Naples Zoo
Posted by SusanStokes on June 14, 2013
On Sunday, June 16, dads can celebrate Father’s Day at Naples Zoo for free by trading some of those half-empty bottles of cheap aftershave from previous Father’s Days. Along with a paid child (or adult) ticket, dads just need to bring a new or partially used bottle of cologne to the Zoo on Father’s Day. Dad and family can then enjoy cruising through islands of monkeys, seeing the new cheetahs, feeding the giraffes, and more. Why does the Zoo want aftershave? For the animals, of course. This annual call for cologne provides new scents for the animals to enjoy all year.

I’ve written about the Bil-Jac brand of dog food in the past. It’s a solid, family owned company that offers quality dog food products and lots of good advice for dog owners through newsletters and social media. They have launched a “Take Your Dog To Work” contest running now through May 30 where dog lovers across the country have the opportunity to win dog treats and food coupons by sharing a photo of their dog at work. It is a celebration of “National Take Your Dog To Work Day” on June 21 with a very special campaign celebrating the spirit of the American office dog.
Help Comes to Oklahoma Tornado Victims through Social Media

Helping pets and people in the aftermath of Oklahoma tornadoes...
Once again, I sat glued to the news on television and on the internet, hardly believing my eyes. The total destruction of Moore, Oklahoma by a super tornado was something out of the Twilight Zone. How can the same town get hit twice, with even more destruction the second time? We turn now to helping those people and pets in the aftermath. Social media once again plays a big part.

Today is a day to celebrate that bird lover in you. May 4 is International Migratory Bird Day, and we’ve checked in with Naples Zoo, one of our favorite animal habitats, for some information on how we can help birds at home.
