On this National Feral Cat Day, let’s thank all those who take on the task of trap-neuter-return. It becomes a never ending cycle for those who choose this path to save homeless cats and help reduce the feral cat population. Sometimes rescued feral kittens are even deemed adoptable into homes, but this was not the case for Junior, a sickly kitten later diagnosed by UC Davis with a life-threatening Portosystemic Shunt, otherwise known as a liver shunt.

I just took a look at Alley Cat Alley’s list of registered events for National Feral Cat Day 2014, and the list is already quite long. The creativity behind the variety of events is amazing. There’s a lot of lucky ferals out there!


Veterans Day promotion from Three Dog Bakery

Here’s a nice idea to celebrate Veterans Day and give back to a deserving veteran. According to their recent press release, Three Dog Bakery will donate to the nonprofit Food Industry Serving Heroes an amount equal to 15 percent of the total sales of its products, whether through its bakeries, its retail outlets or online, made on Veterans Day. The company will also contribute a year's supply of its dog food and treats to the recipients of its service dog initiative.


Nonprofit organization produces documentary about feral cats

A recently organized nonprofit organization called Photographers for Animals is run by a husband and wife photography and videography team based in Baltimore. Their current project? Producing a documentary about feral cats.

Muggins is a tuxedo cat with an exceptional owner. She would not give up on her beloved friend suffering from advanced kidney failure and lungs filled with fluid from multiple tumors. She pressed on from veterinarian to veterinarian, each with a euthanasia recommendation, until she found Dr. Marcie Fallek.


Take me out to the Ball Game with Chasing Dreams

Dogs got a special treat Wednesday night, July 30, at the Somerset Patriots baseball game in Bridgewater, New Jersey. It was “Bark in the Park Night,” and canines were admitted free with their pet parents. Chasing Dreams, specializing in animal massage and photonic therapy for horses and pets, was a vendor/sponsor to the July event.

Alley Cat Allies offers summer safety advice for outdoor cats

As summer continues, Alley Cat Allies is providing anyone who cares for cats outdoors with simple steps that can make the cats more comfortable in the summertime heat and humidity.



I wanted to share this nice Independence Day story. Medically retired Marine Corps veteran Sgt. Ryan Jamison Matthew Holiday is about to get a gift that comes with life-changing possibilities. Thanks to Guardians of Rescue (GOR), this veteran who is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) will be given a service dog.  The best part is he will receive it on his favorite holiday that just so happens to coincide with his birthday - the Fourth of July.
