A chance encounter with four rescued donkeys 13 years ago irrevocably altered the trajectory of Jonno Sherwin’s life. Today, that initial spark of empathy has blossomed into the Karoo Donkey Sanctuary, a prominent South African refuge currently protecting over 400 animals, including horses, cattle, and geese, alongside a core herd of 140 donkeys.

To sustain its absolute commitment to these animals, the sanctuary is launching the Long Ears Club, calling on monthly donors to help uphold its lifetime pledge.

The Mdzananda Animal Clinic and Shelter in Khayelitsha is urgently appealing to the public to open their homes and adopt a dog or cat, as the small shelter has reached full capacity and can no longer safely accommodate more animals, The shelter is currently caring for 34 dogs, 15 cats and 17 kittens, despite only being able to comfortably house 30 dogs and 20 cats.
