Pet Sitter Promotes Animal Rescue for Love Your Pet Day

Posted by SusanStokes on January 24, 2021

February is traditionally the month we associate with Love, and for many that Love extends to our pets. Lorraine Zdeb, founder of Love Your Pet LLC, a premier pet sitting service based in Somerset County, New Jersey, hopes to inspire and motivate pet owners everywhere for a special February holiday meant to celebrate our pets, Love Your Pet Day on February 20th.

Rabbit! Rabbit! Rabbit!

Who needs a little extra bit of good luck? I came across an old superstition and decided to share it. It appears this superstition found in Britain and North America entails repeating the words "rabbit(s)" or "white rabbits" aloud upon waking on the first day of a month to ensure good luck for the entire month.

The Creek Chronicles - Hobo Heron

Posted by SusanStokes on December 15, 2020

My visit to the local creek has become an almost daily experience not only for exercise by walking there and back, but also for a peek at the wildlife inhabitants there. I now know where to look for the Great Blue Heron, and I continue to learn more about this fabulous creature.

Leucistic Canada Goose Sighting

Posted by SusanStokes on November 11, 2020

An amazing thing happened during my daily walk along the creek.  I came across a rather large gaggle of Canada Geese, not unlike many times before, except this time something was different.  In the midst of the normal looking Canada Geese was a misfit – a beautiful white goose happily eating and socializing amongst the gaggle, completely unaware of its singular beauty, just one of the gang.

In Search of the American Bullfrog

Posted by SusanStokes on October 11, 2020

Of the many things I love most about my daily walks along the creek are the sounds I hear from the wildlife. Occasionally, the bullfrog calls stand out, and I follow the sound with the hope to see one.

Meet the Groundhog!

I must say, I’ve tried countless times unsuccessfully to capture a photo of a groundhog up close. It seems the moment they sense my presence, they run away faster than I can even get the camera in focus. Until one day, during an afternoon walk, one particular groundhog gave me a closer than usual opportunity to capture him on video.

A Great Blue Heron Encounter

Posted by SusanStokes on August 15, 2020

A regular Covid-19 Pandemic pastime of mine has become walking along a particular creek not far from my home and observing whatever wildlife I run across at the time. Imagine my surprise to come upon a Great Blue Heron. I was actually observing other birds when suddenly this majestic creature came into view.

The Great Egret Encounter

Posted by SusanStokes on July 11, 2020

My daily walks now include a nearby creek that appears rich wildlife including ducks, geese, rabbits, groundhogs, deer and a variety of birds. I was pleasantly surprised one day to encounter a Great Egret wading in the creek, obviously fishing for food.

Blue Jay Babies

Posted by SusanStokes on June 10, 2020

We were fortunate this Spring to have a pair of Blue Jays build their nest in the tree right outside my office window. What a treat! From three eggs to three baby birds, I was able to watch daily mom and dad switching off feeding the babies and protecting them by sitting on the nest. Of course, camera and video were always in hand!
